Study Abroad For Credit – 5 Points
Studying abroad in Kamloops, BC, since September 2023, has been one of the most significant experiences of my academic journey. Over the past two years at Thompson Rivers University(TRU), where I am completing my Data Science degree, I have not only participated in classes but also taken part in various events organized by the community, interacting with both local people and other international students. Moving from Mauritius to Canada required me to adjust to a new climate, different communication styles, and unfamiliar academic expectations. These challenges encouraged me to become more independent, flexible, and open to new experiences.
Being part of TRU’S multicultural environment helped me to develop stronger intercultural awareness as I learned to understand different perspectives and share my own Mauritian background, languages, and traditions with others. Through events, group projects, and everyday interactions, I improved my cross-cultural communication skills and learned how to build meaningful relationships in a diverse setting. This experience has contributed greatly to my personal growth by helping me become more confident, reflective, and adaptable.
